American Apparel Investigated for Hiring Illegal Workers
July 5th, 2009
A clothing company that prides itself on its made-in-America label is under investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Services for hiring illegal workers.
A federal investigation found that 1,600 of the 4,500 employees at American Apparel’s Los Angeles factories got their jobs using “suspect and not valid” eligibility documentation, Reuters reported.
In addition, the status of another 200 workers could not be verified because of discrepancies, the January 2008 probe found.
American Apparel, in a recent federal filing, said it did not intentionally hire illegal aliens, Reuters reported.
Kornit Digital Serves Notice
June 17th, 2009
Kornit Digital/Israel, served notice on the industry on June 12 by suing the major players over the Kornit patent on printing white ink on textiles using direct-to-garment inkjet technology. The Kornit patent has been around for almost two years and many in the industry feel it is a “patent about nothing” based on the current technology and how white ink is printed on shirts.
But, Kornit has a patent and they have sued M&R, Brother, Flexijet, SWF Mesa, and others. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Download a copy of the suit and patent here. Kornit Patent Lawsuit (350)
